Friends reunited

Sunshine Beach State School is unique being the only Accredited International School and Glasser Quality School on the Coast and the school’s unique qualities entice international families back for return visits year after year.

This includes Jimmy who recently commenced a second visit from China. Jimmy is ecstatic to be back at Sunshine – especially to reunite with his friend Chloe! Now both in Year 4, the friends happily met and exchanged gifts when reunited.

The friendship began in 2017 during Jimmy’s first visit to Australia when Chloe and Jimmy were classmates – the pair formed a bond that has continued across the miles, exchanging letters and emails since that time.

Chloe said, “I felt happy and excited when I saw Jimmy again! I felt like I just saw him yesterday – but he’s taller!”

The sharing of emotions and experiences closes the language gap, as saying goodbye to a friend is universally sad. Jimmy agreed, “It’s been so good to see my old friend. She’s taller and more brave this time as last time she was crying when I said goodbye.”

Each day the pair can be seen on the playground eating and chatting endlessly. Although Jimmy’s English is still limited, the two can definitely communicate about the more important things in life – discussing contents of lunchbox for the day, weekend plans, and Jimmy’s passion – ants.

Unfortunately, there may be more tears when the pair say goodbye to one another with Jimmy returning to China during this term.
