Sippy Downs man charged after 11-hour siege

A man has been charged after an 11 hour siege in Sippy Downs.

A man has been charged after an 11 hour siege in Sippy Downs on 28 and 29 January.

Police were called to a unit on University Way around 10.45pm on 28 January to reports a man was allegedly armed with bladed weapons and making threats of violence.

The man was alone in the unit and the incident was contained to the unit.

Police, including negotiators, were in communication with the man throughout the incident until specialist police arrested the man around 10.05am on 29 January.

No one was physically injured however the man was taken to hospital for assessment.

The 37-year-old Sippy Downs man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police officer whilst armed with a weapon, use a carriage service to make a threat to cause serious harm, use a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence and wilful damage.

He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on 30 January.
