Students set sail for adventure-based learning

The boat has been named after Carolyn England, the school's dedicated business manager of 12 years.

Noosa Flexible Learning Centre has set sail with new boat dedicated to adventure-based learning.

Named after Carolyn England, the school’s dedicated business manager of 12 years, the Carolyn will become a crucial part of the Noosa Flexi community, ensuring young people have access to the highest quality resources to assist them in being life-long learners.

Building on the school’s adventure-based learning program, students will be able to use the Carolyn for lessons in water safety, sustainability and geography.

It will also be used to explore careers in tourism and the marine industry, giving students the opportunity to obtain their boat license.

Noosa Flexible Learning Centre principal Michelle Kinnane said the boat was a wonderful vehicle to support young people learning.

“This new boat brings curriculum to life through exploring our waterways,“ she said.

“The young people are really excited it has arrived, they choose the colour and the layout and to now see it is as a reality and a part of their daily school program has been really cool.”

Members of the school’s ‘Girl Gang’ empowerment group were among the first to set sail on the new boat, navigating the Noosa waterways with confidence while building camaraderie.

Associate head of campus Daniel Parkinson said, “Their journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of education and community, reminding us that with determination and support, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.”
