All eyes on the women

Well, what weekend.

The senior men got jumped and just couldn’t quite reel them in, the senior women advance to a third straight grand final and the junior boys brought home two premierships from Sunday’s Sunny Coast grand finals.

I have to start with our senior men who were far from disgraced after trailing by 32 points to nil after just 12 minutes in a frenetic opening quarter where 13 goals were kicked. From then on the Tigers were forever challenging and got to within a kick before the Redland Bay Sharks steadied and were able to control the ball long enough to endure.

A first semi final awaits Palm Beach, who the Tigers have beaten this year.

Plenty of good players for the Rococo Noosa Tigers with tall utility Michael Bussey being presented with the Brian Trist medal for Noosa best on the ground. His presence all over the ground and in particular while rucking was just immense. Brian Trist, of course, just a Noosa Tigers’ legend and more than deserves a medal for excellence named in his honour.

Defender Lachy Glagg was again outstanding on the last line of defence showing poise and coolness under constant pressure. Onballers Tommy Templeton, Connor McDonald, Josh Wallis and Jai Fitzpatrick were in everything and tried desperately to will the Noosa boys to a victory while forwards Ethan EJ Johnston and Aaron Wilson were just scintillating, both kicking five majors and causing the victors plenty of headaches.

A very much improved performance by this year’s group and to Rourkey, Collo and all support staff, well done on a very enjoyable season. Senior men’s vote count day will be held this Saturday at the clubrooms from 10am.

Media award votes:

5. E.Johnston.

4. LFlagg.

3. M.Bussey.

2. T.Templeton.

1. A.Wilson.

The winner of our media award will be announced on presentation night which is on Friday 30 September.

And, of course, there are our senior women who were just brutal in their preliminary final at Rococo oval last Saturday night in front of an enormous home crowd.

The tackling pressure and will to help out your team mate was on show as the Noosa girls completely dominated their North Shore opponents.

Keirra Massoud was just superb the entire night creating a presence that the Jets just could not cover whether in the ruck or up forward.

Keana Hop Welsh and Ragen Mills were the bulls that dominated the midfield racking up a heap of possessions whilst Sasha Snails on her wing showcased all the skill needed to dominate a women’s game at this level.

Kellie Barker and Niamh Johnston (Wayne Dover medallist) were terrific down back as the girls now take on Pine Rivers in the decider at Yeronga from noon on Father’s Day.

Keep a look out for all details on our social mediums, and if not, be down at the club Thursday night as the women go through their final paces as they attempt to go back to back to back and be the first ever Noosa senior team to do so.

Fantastic premiership wins to our Under 12 and under 14 boys and also to the 13 girls and 12 div 3 boys who came up a little short.

A big week still the same coming up at the Rococo Noosa Tigers with all eyes on the women as they attempt to create some local history.

Happy Father’s Day to all for Sunday and go Tigers.
