Have your say on airport

Noosa residents have until 11 January to make submissions on the post-implementation review of the new runway at Sunshine Coast Airport.

The engagement is part of the Sunshine Coast Airport New Runway Post Implementation Review (PIR) Recommendations Implementation project, which follows the PIR completed in October 2023.

The recommendations are designed to limit noise impacts on surrounding communities and provide better information about aircraft operations.

Community consultation is being delivered in two packages. Package one focuses on three areas: improving information sharing with the community, exploring feasible Noise Abatement Procedure (NAP) improvements, and investigating options for a permanent or temporary noise monitoring program.

The remaining recommendations, which involve investigating feasible flight path changes, will be considered after outcomes from Package 4 of the Brisbane Noise Action Plan are released.

Airservices Australia says changes to Brisbane airspace may affect Sunshine Coast flight paths, so clarity from Brisbane operations is needed before developing new flight path options locally.

Residents can provide feedback via communityengagement@airservicesaustralia.com and can also register for online engagement sessions to discuss the recommendations.

Airservices Australia says community input is vital to ensuring Sunshine Coast Airport operations balance operational needs with local residents’ concerns.

Some community members have requested clarification on aircraft movements over areas affected by short approaches on Runway 13.

Data shows that, on average, 12.8 aircraft per day track over communities affected by the short approach, including arrivals and departures, with 1.6 departures occurring during NAP hours of 6am to 12pm.

Airservices Australia has also corrected minor noise level errors previously reported for Tinbeerwah, clarifying a difference of 1–2 decibels.

Historical flight path usage data has been released, detailing arrivals and departures across the airport over a 12 month period. Information materials have also been updated to simplify complex aviation terminology for community members.

Residents can update or resubmit feedback via email at communityengagement@airservicesaustralia.com
