Noosa Christmas surf patrol

Noosa Surf lifesaving volunteers gave up their Christmas Day celebrations to make sure everyone else was safe on the beach.

Noosa Surf Lifesaving Club president Ross Fisher said the Glassock family was a standout feature on the Christmas patrol with mum Jenny and four of her children – Archie, Joey, Harry and Maggie on patrol.

“They have all come through Nippers and Joey was Club Patrol Person of the Year last year,” Ross said.

“They have all been patrolling at Noosa for many years. I can recall Joey as a 10-year-old assisting the family build Sandy Santa with his little plastic spade.”

While the lifesavers kept an eye on beach goers the wild weather had everyone scrambling on Christmas Eve.

Ross said about 3pm an intense storm hit the beach delivering lightning and strong winds that led lifesavers to close the beach.

“Many cabanas were blown down and people rushed for cover up at the Club,” he said.

The beach remained closed until the patrol finished at 6pm.
