Tigers down but by no means out

The Roccoco Noosa Tigers have been beaten by Brisbane heavyweights Aspley by 19 points in a very high standard and entertaining game of footy at Weyba rd last Saturday. For the second week in a row the Tigers were jumped at the start and whilst the final three quarters were a dead set arm wrestle the much improved Noosa side just couldn’t match the experienced and very well structured Hornets outfit.

When the Tigers had momentum and were coming hard late in the third quarter Aspley were about to quickly hit the scoreboard just to give them breathing space and then used the defensive side of the ground and stoppages to run the clock down in the final quarter.

But a big pro Noosa crowd did not leave disappointed as we continue to marvel at the local boys ‘will to crack in’ and improvement under the shrewd coaching of Matthew Luenberger.

Noosa had terrific players everywhere but none better than Rhys Free across half back who mopped up everything all day with poise and great finishing skill.

Frank is having a superb season thus far. Captain Jono Freeman booted five goals to be the best forward on the ground against his old club and his tackling and commitment to the cause did not go un noticed. Youngster Ethan Slaney is in some kind of form. His attack on the footy and skillfull disposal is making him a very enjoyable player to watch in a very good competition. This writer loved the games of Tallis, Buntain, Cooper, Airey, Bamback and thought the switch of local favourite Maccie Johnston into the ruck was instrumental in turning the game in Noosa favour. Team leaders Mitch Conn and Maverick Pettigrove were once again among the tigers best also.

Our Senior Women went down to reigning Premiers Sherwood by four goals in another much improved effort. Four goals in red time certainly didn’t help the Tigers cause as they continue to learn and understand the systems coach Rocket McConnon is installing. Champion baller Ragen Mills was the Tigers standout with the girls having a bye this week and celebrating Ladies Day on the lawn from 2pm.

A massive congratulations to Eliza ‘Chip’ Trompf who played her 50th Senior game for the Tigers last weekend. The four time Premiership player and 2022 best and fairest has been an absolute champion of our club in the Women’s space and continues to dominate games in 2025.

Our reserves were run over by a much more structured and energetic Aspley with Rhys Tarling and Cian Mallon the best for the Tigers whilst the undefeated colts went down to a much cleaner and aggressive Aspley to start the day with Mure, Shannon, Cooke and Brain the best for the Tigers.

Another massive day at Roccoco oval this Saturday as our Senior Mens teams take on Redlands (who sit on top of the QAFL ladder ). As mentioned earlier the Women have a bye and its Ladies day on the lawn from 2pm. A very Happy Mother’s Day to all those awesome Mums at Tigerland for Sunday.

Our first presidents luncheon with special guest John Longmire this Saturday from midday which should not be missed and also a very happy 30th birthday to Curtis Walsh, whose been supporting the Noosa Tigers for over 20 years.

All the best to our Noosa Tigers inclusion team who head to Redcliffe this Saturday to begin their 2025 season.

Good luck to all those teams representing Noosa this weekend.
