Noosa Golf Club teams face off with 12 months of bragging rights on the line

Local rivalry doesn’t come much closer than this. For the first time Noosa Golf Club assembled 2 representative teams in both the B Grade and Masters 2025 Pennant Competitions as well as an A Grade and 3 Junior teams. On Sunday at Twin Waters Golf Club the group stages of the B Grade and Masters came to a finale as the Noosa teams faced off with 12 months of bragging rights on the line. Noosa 1 captained by Ben Meredith had played near faultless golf in the competition so far winning all 4 matches and had already qualified for the semi-finals.

Both B Grade teams were bolstered by including a pair of single figure handicap junior players. 15 year old Nathan Roberts (pictured) with two junior flags already to his name was the star performer for Noosa 1 comfortably winning all of his matches in Rounds 1-4. However on Sunday he finally met his match against experienced campaigner Noel Ackland who made a par 3 on the 200m 17th hole to secure a 3&1 victory. In the end Noosa 1 showed why they are top of the table taking the match 3.5 to 2.5 and ensured they go into the semi-final against Tin Can Bay this weekend with a 100 per cent win record.

Both Masters teams had already played some very tight matches with typical nail biting finishes. Sadly a win for either team in the final round would still leave them just short of qualifying for a semi-final berth. So it was no surprise their match would be typical of the season’s results so far with 3 wins and 3 losses for each side, this time Noosa 2 captained by Michael Cookman finished one rung further up the ladder by losing just one match all season. Noosa Springs finished 2nd on the ladder to qualify for the semi-finals and will face Mount Coolum at Tin Can Bay on Sunday.

Earlier this season the Noosa Juniors Division 3 team needed a win against Beerwah at Woodford to progress to the final. An enthralling match finished 2-2 with Aedan Mayo losing 2&1, Tom Hall comfortably won 5&3, Marnie Walker in her first match went down 2&1 and Oliver Anderson continued on his winning way recording a 2/1 win. This required a captain’s play-off with Aedan Mayo hitting one of the shots of his life to settle the match on the 19th hole. Favourites Woodford had already secured their place in the final after finishing top of the ladder but this promised to be an exciting tight match and it didn’t disappoint. Tom Hall lost to Issy Stait 4&2 but Jackson Holland won his game 1 up leaving the match equal at 1-1. Aedan Mayo finished early after a 7&6 win giving Noosa the edge with one match still out on the course. However Nevaeh-lee Shepherd inflicted Oliver Anderson’s first defeat 5&3 so there would be another Captain’s play-off with Aedan Mayo this time facing Jakob Ryan. History repeated itself with Aedan winning on the 19th hole for Noosa to become the 2025 Division 3 Champions. A Noosa Golf Club Junior side has now won a Pennant flag four seasons in a row and during that period the number of cadet and junior members has doubled.
