From the fairways of Cooroy to the bright lights of professional golf, George Giblett’s rise has been anything but rushed — and that, he believes, has made all the difference.
Giblett first picked up a club at 14 at Cooroy Golf Club, quickly falling in love with the game that would shape his future. He attended Cooroy State School through to Grade 6 before completing his secondary education at Good Shepherd Lutheran College. In 2016, he moved to Noosa, where his golfing journey began to gather momentum.
Now playing off an impressive plus-four handicap, Giblett has officially turned professional on the back of qualifying for this year’s NSW Open in the Hunter Valley — a breakthrough moment he describes as both validating and motivating.
“That was a big step,” he said. “It confirmed I’m heading in the right direction.”
Balancing sport and study, Giblett has just completed a university degree in finance at QUT, a qualification he hopes will complement his life on tour. But golf remains the clear priority, with plans to head to the United States in late January to chase opportunities and continue refining his game. He will also keep contesting Australian Tour Schools as he builds his professional career.
Giblett has modelled his smooth, classic style on legends George Knudson and Sam Snead, while naming Jordan Spieth as his favourite modern professional. He credits his strengths to his “mental game and iron play” — tools honed under the guidance of respected coaches Jimmy Douris and Terry Price on the Gold Coast.
A member of both Noosa Tewantin and Brisbane Golf Clubs, Giblett says his favourite course remains close to home.
“Noosa-Tewantin,” he said without hesitation.
Asked for his recipe for success, Giblett is quick to look beyond himself.
“Find players better than you and have the right coaches who believe in you,” he said.
With belief, discipline and a passport ready, George Giblett’s next chapter is just beginning — and Noosa will be watching.
