Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club is incredibly excited to announce that their U17 team has won the Australian Titles Gold for the Patrol Competition for the first time in the Club’s history.
The Champion Patrol event at Aussies 2021 is one of the most challenging events in the Australian Titles competition.
The competition was a gruelling 10½ hours on the beach competing across all disciplines of Surf Life Saving. The SLSA Champion Patrol Competition aims to demonstrate how lifesavers work as a team in performing the skills associated with surf rescue patrol work. It is the ultimate team event in Surf-Lifesaving.
The event consists of a theory paper, physical events (surf-teams, board-tube-rescue relay), a team resuscitation, patient assessment and a life-saving scenario. Then in a nail-biting finale, the U17 team came home with the Gold.
The U17 Mooloolaba Champion Patrol consisted of Rylee Jones, 15, Hayden Notley, 16, Connor Dick, 16 and Kiera Bascombe, 15 and coached by Corey Linton and Shane Linton as team manager. This tight-knit group of junior lifesavers worked tirelessly for six months, training two to three times a week, as well as studying at home, to take out the top spot.
The Champion Patrol event aims to demonstrate how lifesavers work as a team in performing some or all of the skills associated with surf rescue patrol work. The competition is extremely tough, with participants studying and training for months to be physically and mentally fit.
This is an unbelievable result for these young adults, and Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club is incredibly proud that these are the Lifesavers of the future.
