The Under-17 Division 1 game was the highlight of the week-end’s games at the Giraween Sports Complex with the young Noosa’s lads coming up against top of the ladder Buderim.
Things were going to script for the visitors up 2-0 in the first 30 minutes, but they weren’t counting on the determined efforts of the Noosa side who brought the game back to level scores at half time. Noosa came out in the second half fired up, found their touch with the ball and started to really pressure the Buderim defence. With 20 minutes to go it seemed their efforts were to no avail with the visitors scoring three more times against the flow of play. Not giving up Noosa continued to apply the pressure and was rewarded with two good goals. With only a minute to go Buderim had stacked its defence but great team work allowed Noosa to score an exceptional leveller in the final minute drawing with the top team 5-5.

The coastal women gave the Nambour Yandina United (NYU) ladies a football lesson in the second half of the opening game on Friday night. The Noosa Coastal women’s White team have only lost once this year and it was against NYU. With a 0-0 scoreline at half time it looked possible again. While Noosa was dominant in the first half the NYU keeper had kept them scoreless with some incredible saves. The Noosa women went out in the second half determined to prove they were the better team, and succeeded with flying colours. NYU had no answer for Noosa’s flowing football, pass after pass led to wave after wave of attack, ultimately resulting in a 6-0 win – Ursula Hughson bagging four goals and Simone Richter two.

Noosa was assured of at least one victory at home on Friday night as two Noosa over-35 sides clashed. Billed as a David versus Goliath scenario, the newly established Noosa O35 Whites came up against the multi-premiership winning Noosa O35 Blue Goliaths on Friday night. The Noosa Whites managed to contain the Blues for what seemed like a very long 15 seconds. Michael Cookman taking advantage of what some described as a gale force wind to drive one above the keeper’s head from about 45 metres out only three touches into the game. The Whites however buckled down dominating possession for the next 15 minutes. The experience of Noosa Blues shone through and living up to their Goliath reputation slamming home goal after goal as time wore on. The driving wind and rain subsided just in time for the second half to begin and the advantage enjoyed by the Blues dissipating as the luckless Whites turned to face northward. Noosa the winner – by a lot.

Other convincing winners were the Under-13 Division 1 side against Beegees and the Under-15 Division 1 boys who had a 7-2 win over Cooroora United.

The Premier Men’s games were postponed due to weather damage to the Maroochydore fields and will be played this coming Saturday.
