PEREGIAN Springs Golf Club has a new world champion in the form of junior golfer Cassie Porter.
Cassie took on the best in the world to take the gold medal in the 12-and-under age division at the World Junior Olympic Games Golf Championship held at the Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, California late last week.
Cassie finished the championship 13-shots-clear of her nearest rival with rounds of 79, 77 and 74, an outstanding result.
She won the right to represent her country by winning her age division at the 2015 Australian Junior Age Division Golf Championship held in Yepoon earlier this year.
Peregian Springs CEO Declan McCollam said the club is very proud of Cassie’s achievements.
“She has been coached by our Head Professional, Kai McKay, and we are delighted with how far she has come at such a young age,” he said.
“Cassie played in other events in the USA in the lead-up to the Junior Golf Olympics and impressed coaches from several colleges.
“She will remain in contact with them and it is very likely she will visit the USA again next year.”
Cassie’s parents, Di and Jon Porter, said that they were exceptionally proud of Cassie’s achievement’s and are very grateful to everyone at Peregian Springs Golf Club for their support.
Cassie returns home this week and will be thoroughly congratulated by the members on Friday evening.
