POMONA BOWLS
A FANTASTIC bowling week for Pomona Club with plenty of action involving King of the Mountain Carnival.
Wednesday Ladies Queen of the Mountain – a great day although the first game was played in inclement weather the weather improved in the following two games. After some great action on the green the eventual Gold medal winners were the team from Coolum Beach skipped by Marilyn Clayton. Runners-up were Jill Calloway’s team from Tin Can Bay. We were all delighted when the Pomona Team of Veronis O’Connor, Desley O’Neill, Gaye Bible and skip Tina Camp secured fourth spot on the ladder. Congratulations to all bowlers for a great competition.
Friday was the annual Knaves of the Mountain a mixed team event to ensure everyone in the club is involved in the weekly carnival. Some great games among the keen players with the final results as follows.
Round One winners Jeannie Price, Phyllis Roebuck and skip Faye Beadnell.
Round Two winners Bernadette Williams/Jan Williams/Shane Luppi, Desley O’Neill and skip Russell Hill.
Round Three winners Sheena Millar, Robert Roebuck and skip Veronis O’Connor.
Runners-up on the day were Ann Carruthers, Norm Walmsley and skip Gaye Bible. The winning team (or anointed scoundrels of the day) were Glenn Johnston, Linda McDougall and skip Mel Hobbins.
The weekend saw the climax of the bowling year with 64 players vying for the title of King of the Mountain.
And what great bowling action was witnessed by the many enthusiastic spectators.
There were many close scores and up and down levels for some teams with wins and losses depending on whom they were playing.
Six round winners being the teams of Gary Dan, Kel Young, Tony Green, Troy Rowley, Bob Schofield and Bob Andrews (Pomona Team).
The fourth top places went to: Team 13, Mark Doran with four wins +83; Team five: Wayne Masters with four wins +90; runners-up Team 11 Glenn Whyte four wins + one draw 87points, and our gold medallists were Team14 Phil McCanna with five wins +one draw 104 points.
