DO YOU have what it takes to fight fires, conduct burn offs and help keep the community safe?
The Tinbeerwah Rural Fire Brigade is looking for 10 more members who want to join the already 16-strong team that services Tinbeerwah and Cooroy.
The role of a rural fire brigade volunteer can differ from day to day as Mother Nature and human error throw up an array of situations to deal with.
Last year, the Tinbeerwah crew attended 85 call outs for a range of issues including flood clean-up, wildfires, house fires, plus three members were deployed to Western Australia in February this year to help volunteers fight large fires.
The brigade trains the first Tuesday night and third Sunday morning of each month with maintenance night on the second Tuesday of each month.
Crew leader Rohan Roylance has been fighting fires for more than 28 years and said the brigade would suit anyone who worked traditional hours as well as those who work shift work and were around during the day.
“As well as looking for people who are interested in undertaking as active fire-fighting role in the brigade, we are looking for people who are willing to undertake support roles,” he said.
“These roles include secretary, treasurer, maintenance checks and station duties.”
Rohan said those who were accepted into the Rural Fire Service would undertake a basic firefighting course so they were able to attend fire calls with the brigade.
“Once the first officer feels a member is ready, they undertake further training which advances their firefighting knowledge, leadership skills, driving skills as well as other courses,” Rohan said.
