TEARING up the stage doesn’t even come close to describing a Mason Rack performance.
From the first wailing notes of his lap slide guitar, you know you’re in for something really special – simultaneously roaring then suddenly soothing; Rack and band mates leave their audience open-mouthed and begging for more.
Originating from the Gold Coast in Queensland, Mason Rack Band is not afraid to break all the musical genre rules.
Known for a swampy blues rock sound, the band influences include flashes of Tom Waits and Muddy Waters with roots extending to Ben Harper. Throw in a slide guitar, raspy vocals, rocking bluesy bass, massive drum percussion and the result is a spectacular kaleidoscope of musical genres.
The Mason Rack Band pours out tunes influenced by blues, southern stomp, swamp, classic rock and alternative music. Songwriter, Mason Rack is a natural entertainer, from a tapestry of slide guitar, deep broken glass vocals and story fuelled blues rock.
“I just want to bring the best, meanest, horniest, rockin’, swampy, smoky, blues music to my audience,” Mason said.
Mason Rack Band is a three-piece ensemble with guitar, bass, drums and torchy vocals and is renowned for their amazing live stage performances. The band has played alongside artists including Xavier Rudd, Jack Johnson, Buddy Guy and Keith Urban to name a few.
They are consummate festival performers having made appearances at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Blues on Broadbeach, East Coast Blues and Roots and the Gympie Muster to name a few. They’ve also developed an international fan base with Canadian festival goers and airplay in Europe, Japan, Canada and the US.
Mason won the 2007 Q-Song Award “Best Blues and Roots Song” for “Dust” together with Sydney legend Steve Balbi. From smooth ballad to raging raw rock, Mason Rack Band burns hot.
