THE Noosa Dolphins Under-9 Rugby Union teams battled it out for a 25-all draw in the rain at Noosa at the weekend.
Dolphins Under-9s put on a show at Noosa in the rain to fight out a five try draw in an evenly matched game. Captain Remy did not disappoint, trying hard all game doing numerous hit ups from the tap to gain great ground for the Fins. Jaxon fished for the crumbs out of the ruck to dart forward making big yards with an impressive fend off to any Red that came near. A huge game came from Joch securing the ball, tough runs forward and impressive do or die tackling on the line. Mack followed up the forwards to pass off to waiting Fins backs and pulled off a ripper tackle to deny a certain try in the second half.
Fin performed well in the line out and positioned himself well after the forward push to pick up the ball and pass off loading before getting tackled.
Saatchan bagging two tries and Tyler one, were on fire reading the play positioning themselves wherever the action was.
Louie shot through for a try when needed then worked tirelessly all game in attack and defence. Zac led the forwards all game running low and hard, scoring the first try as a reward. Jack continues to go from strength to strength providing the big push when needed and made good ground with ball in hand and will be one to watch next year. Byron was on song with safe hands, catching all the passes coming his way, then got those fast legs and effective fends working to bolt forward, unlucky on two occasions not to score. Domino’s Pizza Player of the Match was Hunter. Hunter organised the scrum, did the hard work in the maul and showed skill with numerous arcing runs through opposition. He showed pinpoint passing and tackled the house down when needed.
A wet start to the day made conditions tricky for some of the earlier games, but no one seemed to mind a little rain to help soften the tackles.
Only one week of competition games for the younger age groups before the season ends and finals footy time begins for the Under-12s and up to finish a great season.
Matthew Flinders 70 defeated Noosa Reds 60 in the Under-7s.
An adventurous game plan of shifting the ball wide proved too ambitious for the conditions on Saturday, driving rain and a slippery pill forced uncharacteristic turnovers that materialised into points for a classy Flinders team. Darcy ignored the conditions and bolted from his own 22 to score a brilliant individual try, Conor, Harry and Gusso combined well as Rory tackled relentlessly. Will and Sarena dug deep playing back to back matches and both still turned in solid performances on a day that was better suited to mud wrestling. Domino’s Pizza Player Of The Match was Darcy Fairbanks.
The Under-11 Noosa Fins 36 defeated Brothers 0, with the result of the match guaranteeing Noosa second place on the ladder with one game to go.
In very wet conditions, the Fins put on a faultless show played almost entirely within their opponents half. Brothers were able to keep the Fins from scoring until the tenth minute but after the first score it was all one way traffic as the boys retained possession, piled on more pressure and had a bit of fun in the rain. Tries: Jason Burns, Jarrah Charlesworth, Lochie Dudgeon, Max Ruster, Josh Whitehill. Conversions: Jarrah Charlesworth (2), James Gelling. Domino’s Pizza Player of the Match: Nick Hooper.
