WET weather didn’t dampen the spirits of locals who turned out in droves for the 106th annual Noosa Country Show at Pomona Showgrounds.
Held over two days on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, organisers of this year’s show said there was something for everyone.
Few country shows have stood the test of time as well as Noosa and the Pomona showground is still the hub of the community, in the town where Noosa Shire was originally formed so many years ago.
For two full days, the main arena was a hive of activity with horses and people of all ages showing off what they have, with riders coming from all over regional Queensland to enter – with some as young as five years old.
As with all good shows there was sideshow alley, rides of all kinds and food as far as the eye could see, while a massive selection of different goodies meant show-goers were spoiled for choice.
While the general numbers were down a little from 2014 because of the rain, show-goers were happy and right into the spirit of the two-day celebration.
Noosa Country Show president Perene Barker said she was delighted with the show and the efforts of so few for so many over the two days.
“It’s been a real labour of love, but we’re very happy with the way it all came together,” Perene said.
“We’re a new committee and a small one at that, but we’re thrilled with the program we were able to assemble. I really want to thank this year’s committee for their incredible efforts, allowing us to showcase the very best of Noosa Country to so many.
“We have to thank our many sponsors with Noosa Council, Geoff Edwards and the team at Bendigo Bank, Pomona Caravan Park and Nielsen’s Quality Gravels, Claytons Towing, Cronin’s Excavations to name just a few. Events like these simply don’t happen without this sort of support and we’re very grateful.”
Noosa Country Show remains one of Queensland’s premier traditional country shows and this year the show honoured the 100th year of Anzac.
The Grand Parade on both days featured the 2nd and 5th Lighthorse Brigades, Noosa Navy Cadets, Pomona Museum giving the community one of its last opportunities to commemorate the centenary milestone.
When the sun went down, the partying started, with Dallas Frasca, Swanee, Steve Hart and the All Stars and Kevin Barker and the Beagle Babes on Friday night, and the Rodeo, Smokin’ Mirrors topped it all off the following night.
