The death of a newborn baby is a tragic time for any family but local volunteers and funeral homes are working hard to help ease the pain.
Angel Gowns Australia is a community organisation of volunteers who lovingly hand craft gowns and tutus from donated wedding dresses which are then donated to families, funeral homes and hospitals around the country.
Drysdale Funerals Tewantin location manager Christine Sterlson said the loss of a newborn baby can be exceptionally hard but Angel Gowns can help.
“Angel Gowns bring the gowns to us and families can pick out which one they would like and we can dress their little loved one for their final journey,” she said.
As a registered not-for-profit charity run by volunteers, Angel Gowns relies heavily on the community for financial support and the donation of materials.
Ms Sterlson said Drysdale Funerals will happily accept any donations of ribbons, beads and sewing materials on behalf of the group, as well as wedding dresses.
Anyone who would like to donate craft items to the charity or an old wedding dress can drop them off at Drysdale Funerals, Butler Street, Tewantin.
