POLICE are appealing to the public for information about the incident that left a 14-year-old boy in hospital with severe burns.
The local student was taken to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital on Saturday 31 October suffering burns to 40 per cent of his body after he was found alight on a Lipton Street doorstep.
Officer in Charge of the Sunshine Coast Child Protection Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Phil Hurst said police are following up on information provided by the public, but are yet to speak to the boy.
“We haven’t yet been able to speak with the boy so at this time we don’t know if this has simply been a terrible accident or if it may be something more serious,” he said.
“We are asking for anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the parkland off Lipton Street at any time during the late afternoon and into the early evening (Saturday 31 October) to contact Crime Stoppers.”
Anyone with information that could help police should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24 hours a day.
