Driver escapes after ramming police car

POLICE are investigating after a vehicle failed to stop before ramming a police car overnight at Tewantin.
About 12.20am on Friday 6 November, police patrolling in an unmarked vehicle attempted to stop a car on Noosa Cooroy Road but the car failed to stop.
A marked police vehicle also attempted to intercept the car but it sped away. Police didn’t give chase to the car, that was last seen turning into St Andrews Drive.
According to the police, about 12.30am the marked vehicle was patrolling in Furness Drive, in Tewantin, when the officer saw the car with no lights on and again attempted to intercept it.
The car immediately sped away but then suddenly stopped on Wentworth Street. Police stopped their marked vehicle a short distance behind the car when it reversed under heavy acceleration towards them.
Police attempted to avoid the collision by also reversing but were still struck by the other car.
The car drove away at speed, still with no lights on, and was last seen turning right onto Beckmans Road heading towards Cooroy.
The police vehicle sustained moderate damage. The male officer, the sole occupant, was uninjured.
The vehicle is described as a silver Ford sedan bearing NSW registration BJ6 5UF with a male driver. It has possibly sustained some damage to the rear as a result of this incident.
Police are also investigating an unrelated incident that occurred a short time later, about 12.35am, when two officers tried to stop a van on Wentworth Street when it allegedly drove directly towards their police vehicle.
One of the two officers had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit by the van.
This vehicle was found abandoned in Muirfield Street, Tewantin, a short time later.
Investigations are continuing into all matters but anyone with information is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
