Nab a piece of bandit’s art

By MEGAN OGLE

LOCAL media reports suggest former Cooroy resident and girlfriend of the infamous postcard bandit is selling two of his original paintings.
Tilly Needham, who recently walked away from her 17-and-a-half year prison romance with Brenden “Postcard Bandit” Abbott, is selling pieces gifted to her by Mr Abbott.
The paintings, a portrait of Gough Whitlam and Mike Tyson, are said to be exceptional art works and produced by Mr Abbott during his lengthy incarceration.
Mr Abbott began taking art lessons in prison and found he had a natural flair for portraits. His other works include tennis star Pat Rafter, cricketer Steve Waugh with one of his children, and the late stockbroker Rene Rivkin. His most recent work, Little Boy Blue, was of Kevin Rudd.
Mr Abbott gained nation-wide notoriety for two escapes from separate prisons which saw him enjoy over six years of freedom before being recaptured at a Darwin laundromat.
