Sunshine hard to beat

WITH a great opportunity to mix it up with the biggest and best from both the Sunshine Coast as well as a few from the Gold Coast, the Murphy Builders Classic at Maroochydore last weekend had not just the region’s best but with the likes of Shannon Eckstein and Jordan Mercer, it was a field of champions.
On Saturday, the Sunshine under-14s and under-15s proved once again that they were the group to beat, with outstanding performances in the boys’ events that included a complete sweep of all placing in the under-15 individual board race with a remarkable first to Maverick Pettigrove, second to Jonty Redwood and third to “Spud” Brewer. Max Moore won the individual board race in the under-14 age group, continuing his dominance of this gruelling event.
On Sunday, more gold was had with the under-14 board relay – consisting of Max Moore, Max Smallman and the mighty Flynn Ross – winning the board team event by at least 100m after leading at every change. Not to be outdone the under-15 boys of Max, Jonty and Spud took gold on the line from a fighting Noosa.
The Sunshine Girls also sparkled with a healthy medal haul across all events. Ruby Nolan dominating in the under-14s with gold in both individual board and individual swim, while Charlotte McKinley, Sophie Bolton, Jess McMaster and Meg Henry turning in some great individual and team performances to pick up a swag of wins and placings.
In the under-15 girls, Olivia Emanuel and Talisa Brady also performed well with too many placings to mention.
With branch and states just around the corner, training ramps up as we work to cement the great competitive reputation of this high performing club.
