Restaurant racing driver goes a la car

A LOCAL restaurateur is closing his menu and opening the throttle as he takes a break from hospitality to jump into the driver’s seat.
Owner of Miss Moneypenny’s Restaurant Ben Walsh leaves his restaurant in good hands as he heads off to compete in round one of the Aussie Racing Car Championship at this weekend’s Clipsal 500 held on the streets of Adelaide.
Mr Walsh, once a professional race car driver, is the only Australian to ever win the F.I.A international Asian Driver’s Championship and is returning to the sport in an attempt to win the Aussie Racing Championship.
“It’s great to be back competing this year, especially with the support of my sponsor, who have shown enough confidence in me to back me for the entire championship in my bid to win it,” Mr Walsh said.
Mr Walsh will be hitting the circuit in 2016 with a new race car.
His new Camaro body shell car was unveiled at Queensland Raceway for the team media launch last Friday.
The Aussie Racing Car Championship is held in conjunction with the V8 Supercars at selected rounds, beginning this weekend in Adelaide and finishing in November at Pukekohe, New Zealand.
