A MAN has been charged after multiple assaults were reported in Noosa Heads yesterday afternoon (8 March).
A woman walking down the street with a friend and a man sitting outside a restaurant with his young daughter were the alleged victims of unprovoked assaults in Noosa Heads.
Police were called to Lanyana Way, Noosa Heads around 6pm following reports that a family had retreated inside a restaurant after an alleged assault, with the assailant now attempting to gain access to the business.
The man, who failed to get inside the restaurant, fled the scene and was arrested by police walking down the street a short time later.
Police investigations indicate that immediately prior to the incident the man had been at a Sunshine Beach Road licensed premises. The man walked out of the bar and allegedly walked up to a woman, who was in the process of crossing the street with a female friend, and punched her in the back of the head. He then kept walking.
The man continued on his way, walking through back streets, until he came across a 33-year-old man sitting outside of a Lanyana Way restaurant with his young daughter. Police will allege he approached the man from behind and punched him in the face, causing the man’s lip to split, bleed and swell.
The victim grabbed the man but he broke free and walked away only to return a short time later. The victim and his family sought refuge inside their restaurant, calling police, as the man tried to force his way inside, hitting at a glass door with a broom handle.
A 27-year-old man from Charlestown, Queensland has been charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, public nuisance and obstructing police. He is due to appear in the Noosa Magistrates Court later this month.
Police are yet to identify the woman who was allegedly assaulted.
