Police probe cyclist death

A fatal collision has claimed the life of a cyclist.

NOOSA Police are appealing to the public for information regarding a spate of incidents involving a ute and cyclists in Noosa, with one altercation ending in the death of a 42-year-old man in Eumundi.
Police received a complaint yesterday afternoon from a cyclist who alleged two men harassed and threatened him while he was cycling west bound along Gympie Terrace, Noosaville.
It is alleged the same ute, a white Great Wall utility, was later involved in a fatal collision claiming the life of a 42-year-old cyclist in Eumundi.
Emergency crews were called to Eumundi Noosa Road near the intersection of Grays Road shortly after 6pm yesterday but the 42-year-old cyclist died at the scene.
The alleged driver of the vehicle was arrested and taken into custody.
The driver had grazes on his forehead and chin when he appeared in custody in Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning.
He faced charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and assaulting or obstructing police in relation to the death of a 42-year-old cyclist.
The man did not apply for bail this morning and has been remanded in custody while a full brief of evidence was prepared.
His matters are next due for mention in the same court on May 12 at 2pm.
