IT’S official, Noosa’s newest council took to the round table earlier this week as the six councillors and new mayor were sworn in.
The ceremony took place at the council chambers on Tuesday 5 April in front of a crowded public gallery with a few notable attendees including Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss and State member for Noosa Glen Elmes.
Mayor Tony Wellington welcomed the new council and thanked the residents of Noosa for their support.
“I’m honoured to follow in the giant footsteps of both Noel Playford and Bob Abbot,” Cr Wellington said.
“This day also marks the election of what I consider to be an absolutely exceptional group of councillors.”
At the first post-election meeting of the new council, Noosa’s new Deputy Mayor Frank Wilkie was unanimously voted in by council members uncontested.
Cr Wellington also announced a “shuffle” of responsibilities within standing committees in a bid to share workload between the committees more evenly.
The Planning and Environment Committee will consist of Crs Joe Jurisevic, Ingrid Jackson and Brian Stockwell, while Crs Frank Pardon, Frank Wilkie and Jess Glasgow will make up the Services and Organisation Committee.
