Space for working mothers

By MEGAN OGLE

A GROUP of local mothers have banded together to create a child friendly work space for mothers on the go.
The Powerhouse Co-operative was formed by working mothers Aimee Sherriff, Ellie Bermigham, Jenny Webb and Tess Lehman who wanted to create a shared work space for parents that was professional and child-friendly.
“We have each acknowledged the trials and discontents that come with being a work-from-home mother, so we have banded together to start a not-for-profit cooperative offering work space for stay-at-home mothers with a creche attached,” Ms Sherriff said.
“Not only will mothers now have a space to work from, they will also be able to perform high productivity days with their children close by.”
Ms Sherriff said the group aimed to hold regular workshops, seminars and networking events to help steer the “mumpreneurs” towards successful and profitable businesses.
“Not only will this enable mumpreneurs to grow and expand their business, it also means they are now successfully contributing to their overall family income and to the local economy as a whole,” Ms Sherriff said.
Founding member Ms Lenhman said the working space would include a professional work environment as well as a creative studio to accommodate for all types of businesses.
The Powerhouse Co-op will hold their first meeting on Wednesday 27 April at 9.30am at The Breakout Room at the Noosa Leisure Centre for all working parents, investors or community members who are interested in the project. For more information, search for The Powerhouse Co-Op on Facebook or visit the group’s crowd-funding page www.pozible.com/project/205549.
