A LOCAL organisation has helped the plight of children in South Africa after a recent fund-raising luncheon.
Slow Food Noosa held a lunch on Wednesday 11 May at Noosa Boathouse for the Tinmugs Africa Trust.
The fund-raising effort raised an amazing $5000 with goods and services donated by local businesses who offered half the ticket price of guests.
Former local and founder of Tinmugs Africa Trust Bud Higgins spoke to an audience of 84 people at the lunch about the devastating conditions in the slums of Cape Town where she provides a hot meal to poor kids who arrive at school with nothing to eat.
Bud’s visit to Noosa encouraged locals to fund education for an additional 10 children. Once selected, the student will be placed in a school with a uniform and necessary books provided. Updated photos and educational reports and news will be sent regularly to the benefactors.
President of Slow Food Noosa Erika Hackett was delighted to hand over a cheque for $5000 to Bud for the Tinmugs Africa Trust so that she may be able to continue her work in Cape Town.
