Value buried in treasure trove

WHEN an opportunity to buy a second-hand store presented itself 37 years ago, George Magasic couldn’t say no, and has happily bought, sold and traded antiques ever since.
George said he had planned to buy a taxi, but as he was looking through the classified section of a Sydney newspaper, he came across a second-hand business for sale.
“I remember the day, it was 10 May 1979, and I was going to be a taxi driver,” George said.
“The second-hand store cost the same as a taxi, and I thought why not. I’ve had a fantastic 37 years in the business ever since.”
After 22 years in Sydney, George and his antiques moved to Noosa for the lifestyle and have been located in Noosa Junction since.
With a store full of interesting and quirky treasures, George said his most memorable item to date was a Japanese Netsuke, a 17th Century mini sculpture worn by the Japanese to secure their personal belongings, an object which some deemed priceless.
From jewellery to fine porcelain and art to comics, there’s sure to be something to excite and intrigue even the most seasoned collector.
George buys, sells and trades antiques and collectables and offers a free identification service on any object you think could be of value. Whether it’s an aunt’s old vase or a grandparent’s quirky dinner set, George can help you to identify the object free of charge.
So head down to George Magasic’s Jewellery, Antiques and Collectables and see what treasures you can find.
