A LOCAL support group is calling on members to join in the laughter as they fight their way through cancer.
The local Can Laugh Cancer Support Group is a friendly and informal group who support people who have been affected by all types of cancer, at any stage and of any age.
Can Laugh member Joan Murray, who has been with the group for 10 years, said she felt less alone and more happy since joining the group.
“When I went through my treatments, I was able to talk to the group about all the options and they really helped me,” Ms Murray said.
“Cancer isn’t like the flu, I’d never had it before, it was great to talk about it with other people.”
The group meets on the first Friday of each month and invites guest speakers such as doctors, chemists and experts to speak to the group about the help available and answer any questions.
The group is also focused on fun with fortnightly coffee meetings where the “C” word is forbidden and laughs are encouraged as well as annual Christmas events in July and December.
“There are so many people in the community who we could help and support,” Ms Murray said.
“We laugh all the time, and we’re here to help anyone who has or is experiencing cancer; it’s a life-changing journey.”
The group meets on the first Friday of each month at 10am at the CWA Hall, Tewantin. For further information, phone Val on 5470 2345.
