POMONA BOWLS
Plenty of action at the Club during the past week with the ladies playing the first round of Pennants at Albert Club against Tin Can Bay with one win and one loss. A good start ladies – good luck this Monday against Cooloola Coast at Tin Can Bay Club.
Men’s Jackpot Pairs was another successful event – however fortunes did not go Pomona’s way and it was won by an out of town team.
Wednesday Ladies Open Fours played with plenty of competition amongst the teams. Congratulations to R. McAnnelly and her team from Tewantin-Noosa with two wins +18 from runners-up Val Robertson and team (Albert) with two wins +16. Third place went to the Pomona team skipped by Fay Beadnell and in fourth position Ann Hudson and her team from Tin Can Bay. The last round winner was the Cooloola Coast team skipped by Tina Anderson.
Regrettably Thursday Neilsen’s mixed pairs was cancelled due to rain.
Friday Twilight Bowls saw plenty of action on the green with the big first prize going to Norm Walmsley and skip Don Mallett. John Davies and Daryl Millar hit their straps to take out the runners-up prize.

NOOSA HEADS BOWLS
The Sunshine Coast District Men’s Pennant season isn’t far off, and to be ready for the first round action in early August, the Noosa Heads selectors have organised a series of trial games each Saturday to get the teams settled in. This year Noosa will field sides in Divisions 1, 3, and 5.
Ray McComb and Les James had a narrow win over Bill Burkitt and Ron Wallish in their veterans pairs semi-final last week, and will go into next Saturday’s final against Bob King and Joe Pantry, who scored a solid victory over Stewart Black and Ralphe Rickman in the other semi.
Tuesday pairs was won, again, by David Deane and George Manera. Runners-up prize went to Geoff Lewis and Ric McDonald. Wednesday ladies triples winners were Debbie Austin, Jeanette Emery and Beryl Small over the trio of Judith Boakes, Jan Zemler and Margaret Christie.
Friday Open Jackpot Pairs went to Mal Lloyd and Ron Wallish, with a couple of young blokes called Kevin Maguire and Bert Wansley taking runners-up. Saturday triples winners were Graeme Boustead, Frank Turton and Tassie visitor Eileen Brough. Pairs winners were Et Kellett and Sharyn Briggs.

COOROY BOWLS
Did you know that you can play Aussie rules, skittles, darts and golf using bowls? These were some of the novelty games and skill builders played on Sunday for the Community Open Day. Thanks needs to go to the members who supported this event and to the community members who turned up to sign on. Club membership is steadily growing and is now standing at 150.
We have a full green of players for our Ladies Day (formerly President’s Day) on Thursday and clubs near and far are showing their support by sending teams.
Next month sees the commencement of Winter Suns (the 1st and 3rd Sunday). This will be a short competition where teams and positions will be randomly drawn and individual scores will accumulate. Friday Social will re-commence from 2pm every Friday. This is a great time for beginners to learn skills and have a casual game of bowls.
Numbers on the greens on Tuesdays and Saturdays are well represented. Members from nearby clubs are joining us to show their support and are enjoying the friendship and camaraderie. We would like to thank them.

TEWANTIN NOOSA BOWLS
The Ladies’ Fiesta Fours was held on Thursday 19 June, sponsored by Laguna Estate.
Once more the day drew many bowlers from the region and quite a few from outside the region, including bowlers from Murgan and Bribie Island.
The winners were; Y. Walsh, D. Read, B. Balchin and M Clayton from runner-up A. McGill’s team, third were D. Austin’s team and fourth L. Thorpe’s team. The round winner was E. Kunst.
Monday (16 June) was Veteran’s day sponsored by Drysdale had; N. Craig, J. Bain and R. Somerville winners with +19 from runners-up R. Sengstock and R. Hubbard with +18.
Tuesday (17 June) and a visit from Central Queensland District and Sunshine Coast District featured some of our lady bowlers. All up there were 12 Rinks of four’s (96 Bowlers). M. Jane, L. Wall, B. Tolley and V. Hayes winning. First runners-up were K. Simmons, V. King, J. Lonie and M. Carte. Second runners-up were C. Johnston, R. Watts, C. Turpin and M. Callow.
Wednesday (18 June) was Men’s Pairs sponsored by John Maddill Toyota with J. Haydon and A. Wight winners from runners-up B. Roder and K. Manthey.
On Friday (20 June) Noosa Landscape Supplies sponsored the Open Triples. The winning team was Kath Simmons, Gary Bond and Bryan Simmons, from runners-up Jan Lord, Helen Bain and Ken Bain.
Sunshine District men’s and ladies pennant season is fast approaching with the draws now up on club boards. It is great to see so many bowlers wanting to take part in club teams and selectors face uphill battle to select teams again.
