AFTER playing in acclaimed orchestras and chamber music ensembles in Europe for more than 17 years, internationally renowned classical clarinettist Nicole Van Bruggen has returned home to Peregian Beach.
Van Bruggen is a highly respected exponent in historical clarinet, basset horn, basset clarinet and chalumeau and is passionate about chamber music from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Van Bruggen has won prizes in prestigious competitions and recorded numerous CDs of this rich repertoire.
While living in The Netherlands she was principal clarinet in many of Europe’s finest historical instrument orchestras.
Since returning home she has been very busy with her performance career as well as teaching the most talented clarinet students at Matthew Flinders and St Andrews Anglican Colleges.
Three years ago Van Bruggen founded Orchestra Seventeen88, Australia’s first romantic and classical orchestra with Richard Gill AO and Rachael Beesley, her colleague and long-standing friend.
Orchestra Seventeen88 will debut in Noosa with a performance featuring chamber soloists Van Bruggen and Beesley joined on stage by violist Simon Oswell and cellist Michael Dahlenburg as part of the Noosa Long Weekend on Sunday 17 July from 4.30pm at the Good Shepherd Lutheran College.
The musicians will perform a repertoire for clarinet and strings by Haydn and Hummel as well as a sublime string trio by Schubert.
