Bring on the festivities

NOOSA Council is getting into the Christmas spirit early this year with more than $35,000 being allocated to support local festivities.
A host of events have been approved to receive community festive event grants of between $3000 and $10,000 annually, for three years as part of the council’s revamped community grants program.
Boreen Point’s New Year’s Eve @ the Lake event received $3000, Pomona Night of Lights $2400, Tewantin’s Christmas Gala Carnival $3500, Christmas in Cooroy $7000, Noosa Carols on the River $8000 and the Kin Kin Community Christmas Tree event received $1500.
Cooroy Chamber of Commerce president and Christmas in Cooroy organiser Danielle Taylor said the team was very pleased to receive the funding boost.
“Christmas in Cooroy is a totally free event so this fund-raising is essential to ensure we can continue to put smiles on thousands of faces each December,” she said.
“It is one of the major festive season events for Noosa and it just keeps growing with 15,000 people attending last year.”
The program is not limited to Christmas events, with the council also providing $10,000 annually to support Australia Day festivities – a partnership of Rotary Club of Noosa Heads and the Tewantin Noosa Lions Club.
“The council is pleased to help local organisations that deliver festive events enjoyed by so many in our shire,” mayor Tony Wellington said.
“We are blessed to live among so many wonderful volunteers whose efforts reinforce the true spirit of Christmas. Each of these events is a celebration of community and each one is quite special. They certainly deserve the council’s support.”
