LOCAL police have issued a warning to parents to obey the road rules around schools or risk a traffic blitz.
Noosa Heads Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Steve McReight said he drove around school zones last week and was shocked to see cars parked on zebra crossings and footpaths.
“The parking rules and regulations are there to aid the flow of traffic and help keep students safe,” he said.
Sen Sgt McReight said his officers attended a school zone last week and issued seven tickets within half an hour, while another driver was caught doing 24km/h over the school zone speed limit.
“It’s dangerous to the students that parents have just dropped off,” he said.
“We’re hoping we don’t have to enforce the rules. We’re hoping parents will do the right and safe thing.”
Two face fraud charges
TWO Tewantin women are facing at least 30 charges of fraud after police raided their home last Wednesday.
Noosa Heads OIC Sen Sgt Steve McReight said the arrests were an example of good police work.
“The officers raided the home in relation to drugs, but they also noticed a heap of stolen property while there,” he said.
Police will allege numerous bags of cannabis, syringes, a bag of methamphetamine and a bong were found during the raid, before officers returned with a separate warrant to search for the stolen property.
Of the items found, a stolen credit card that had been used to buy shoes and handbags was also recovered.
“It just goes to show that if people report stolen items, the officers read the reports and we can work towards locating the items,” Sen Sgt McReight said.
