THE Pomona Railway Station Gallery is proud to present the Dreaming and Drawing art exhibition of new works by Noel Foley.
The official opening will be held on Saturday 6 August at 11.30am but the exhibition will show until 7 September.
Mr Foley said since he moved to the Pomona area three years ago he rejoiced over his return to the rainforest following a 35-year hiatus in Darwin.
“Having been born and raised in Papua New Guinea, I have been infused since birth by the sights, smells, textures and closeness of the forest, experiences far removed from the NT,” he said.
“I have never been much interested in the ‘grand vista’ but more so in the minutiae of the close in view necessitated by dense forest.”
Mr Foley said he had been blessed with two inspiring places in the Ringtail Creek area and many of the works in the exhibition were inspired by these places and friends.
“My love of birds and the forest emerged as the logical heartbeat of this exhibition,” he said.
“Coming home to lush greenery has also reminded me of the pleasure of simple drawing, something I have been doing throughout my childhood.”
Mr Foley has enjoyed a successful professional career mostly using pastels, which is essentially drawing with colour.
“These works have resulted in an invitation to exhibit and teach aboard the QEII, which, in turn, opened opportunities internationally. This will be my eighth solo exhibition,” he said.
“Drawing in monochrome can be extremely rewarding, however I was unable to deny the colours of many of our magnificent birds. So, why not marry the two?”
In this exhibition, Mr Foley returns to his drawing roots and has made the conscious decision to keep the works to a manageable and practical size with simple, unobtrusive framing so as not to overpower the work.
