MEMBERS of the Noosa Boardriders Club have been busy launching a new program for under-6 riders and taking advantage of near-perfect competition conditions.
With a current membership base of more than 120 competitive surfers and swag of social and family members the club is looking to secure its future with the introduction of a “coach and play” division.
The non-competitive coach and play division will be run on Boardrider Sundays and aimed at developing the under-6 surfers who are still on foam boards to ensure the next division up – the under-8s – are strong in numbers and ability.

When it comes to competitions, near-perfect conditions made for great waves at the first round at First Point alongside the Noosa Mal Club, on Sunday 17 July.
Over 70 surfers took part with strong numbers across all age groups. Mitchell Peterson took out the under-8 division while Lander Smales won the under-10s.
In the under-12 and under-14 divisions, Luke Skelton and Ethan Trotman were winners, with Joe Markwell on show taking out the under-16 division.
Not to be outdone, the extremely competitive girls divisions saw one of the club’s youngest competitors Oli Taylor claim the under-8 girls division while in the under-16 girls the hard charging Georgia Lorentson claimed victory.
The club’s open men and women will be contesting BOQ Noosa’s round two of the extremely popular Shotgun Shootout, on 6 August, with 40 of the region’s best surfers battling it out for the $600 cash purse for the victor.
Local big names like Dean Brady, Harry Bryant, Tori Farmer and The Cervi boys will put on a show that will have locals’ and tourists’ cameras flashing.
The junior girls and boys will be out the following day, Sunday 7 August, contesting round seven of its 10-round series. For membership or inquiries please contact president@noosaboardriders.com.au
