At home in artists’ studios

THE inaugural Noosa Open Studios three-day tour is almost here with a selection of local artists and artisans opening their studios to the public to share their inspiration and works.
The festival will highlight the plethora of local talent throughout the Noosa Shire with some of the artists showcasing how nature and wildlife have inspired their works in many different ways.
Nature’s beautiful plants inspire botanical artist Gabi Dick who said she found her inspiration and love for nature through the help of her family.
“From my earliest recollection my great-great grandfather showed me through the forest and taught me how to identify wild edible plants and my mother was also a great influence for my love of flowers as we strolled through many botanic gardens,” she said.
Taking a different angle on nature, artisan Phyl Williams said she is a compulsive collector who loves to find quirky and unusual objects that are abandoned, discarded or ignored in the bush, at the lake or on the beach.
“I often combine them with recycled objects creating whimsical and unique sculptures and fibre forms,” she said.
Local artist Tricia Bradford is also opening her studio to the public and said she expresses her love of wildlife through both her art and her sculpture.
“I think I like curves! Forming the beautiful structures of birds, animal and human shapes is very satisfying,” she said.
Also exhibiting their works and opening their personal studios are timber craftsmen Ross Annels and David Suters who find their inspiration in the grain, shape and texture of trees.
Artwork, sculptures and a sneak peak in personal studios from each of these artists are all part of the Noosa Open Studios event that kicks off on Friday 19 August and will run for three days to Sunday 21 August
For more information on the event visit www.noosaopenstudios.com.au and to buy tickets for the studio bus tour phone 0403 170 207 or email noosaopenstudios@gmail.com.
