At this time of year, most students have been busy studying for exams and are looking forward to relaxing in their holidays.
However, for Noosa athletes Matt Brice, 10, and Josh Law, 11, most of their free time will be spent training for this year’s Primary Schools Cross Country State Championships.
Matt and Josh have been training twice a week with Little Athletics Noosa for the past three months in preparation for the Cross Country Championships which will be held at John Paul College in Brisbane on 18-19 July.
Josh Law, who attends St Thomas More Primary School, placed in the top five at the Cross Country Regional Trials in the 12yrs Boys and is currently first reserve for the 12yrs Boys event.
Matt Brice, who attends Good Shepherd Lutheran College, placed second at the Cross Country Regional Trials at the Maroochydore Cricket Grounds in May. This will be Matt’s second year competing at State Cross Country Championships and the first year running in the 11yrs Boys 3km event.
“It’s pretty cool that I’ve qualified to go to State Cross Country again,” Matt said.
“I’ve been doing a lot of hill training this year as the course at John Paul College has quite a few hill climbs, so hopefully I’ll do well.”
Both athletes have also made it through to Schools District Athletics Championships, to be held in August, in a number of track and field events.
