AT just 13-years-old, talented ballerina Mei Mei Tan of The Dance Centre Peregian Springs has been awarded the ADFAS Noosa Young Arts Scholarship for 2016.
The prestigious scholarship will help Mei Mei take private dance lessons that will fine-tune her dance skills along with the numerous dance classes she attends at The Dance Centre each week.
ADFAS Noosa is one of 36 Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies in Australia that encourages young people to pursue an involvement in artistic and creative endeavours and assists them in the furthering of their chosen career.
Mei Mei said the extra lessons have really helped her dancing and boosted her confidence.
“The ADFAS Noosa members are interested in my progress and that motivates me to work even harder,” she said.
ADFAS Noosa members donate funds annually for this Award as part of the ADFAS philosophy of making a difference in the community.
In previous years, the award has been offered to either a music or art student, but the committee decided the 2016 scholarship would be offered to a dance student and partnered with The Dance Centre Peregian Springs.
ADFAS Noosa chair Felicity Mauger said ADFAS Noosa was proud to observe the development of Mei Mei’s dancing skills and techniques as well as her participation in the coveted Australian Ballet School’s Interstate program.
“We especially congratulate her on being successful in her audition for Ballet Theatre of Queensland’s production of ‘Cinderella’ in January 2017,” she said.
