EACH and every year Christmas in Cooroy brings a little extra fun to the days leading up to Christmas. One of the main attractions is the Bendigo Bank Street Parade where around 30 community groups and businesses come together to produce a huge array of decorated floats and costumes galore.
The theme for this year is The Movies and some of the organising committee got together this week to try out a few costume ideas including the Man from Snowy River, Scream, Gandalf from The Hobbit, King Arthur, the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Dobby from Harry Potter, Lancelot and Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
Cooroy Chamber of Commerce president and event manager Danielle Taylor said the street parade is a truly spectacular part of Christmas in Cooroy with over 10,000 people lining Maple Street to watch the procession.
“There are always lots of giveaways and lollies handed out to the crowds, and people of all ages are just amazed at how great the floats look,” she said.
“People are always amazed that everything at Christmas in Cooroy is free and that couldn’t happen without sponsors like Cooroy Community Bank Branch.”
Cooroy Community Bank branch manager Geoff Edwards said the bank was always pleased to be involved with Christmas in Cooroy as it was so much fun and really put Cooroy on the map during the festive season.
“But the real reason we continue to be major sponsors is that it gives so much benefit for the community. It is a showcase of great community spirit with everyone working together to produce something quite special,” he said.
There is still time to be in the Bendigo Bank Street Parade, entry forms are available on the website – www.christmasincooroy.com.au.
