Sunshine Beach wins the netball

The Sunshine Beach State School Year 6 team are excited by their win.

A STRONG team performance has seen Sunshine Beach win the inaugural Noosa District Schools Netball competition.
The competition was hosted by Coolum State School with eight schools contesting the event.
The grand final was played against St Thomas More with Sunshine Beach going to halftime with a five point lead.
An enthusiastic but tense team took the court for the second half in front of a crowd who had stayed for the grand final.
A series of unanswered goals allowed Sunshine to claim victory with a 16-3 score line.
Sunshine Beach State School netball coach, Christine O’Toole, was excited with the success and has hinted that “Sunshine Beach will again be hard to beat in 2017 as we fielded both the successful Year 6 team and a Year 5 development team that played superbly all day against quality opposition”.
Sunshine Beach State School Health and Physical education teacher Cameron Porter was proud of the students and suggested that “in addition to the event being a great opportunity to showcase skills it is also an opportunity to meet peers from other schools. Participation in sport helps their social skills and develops a sense of achievement, self-worth and confidence”.
He added that “evidence also suggests a positive correlation between children’s participation in physical activity and academic achievement”.
Year 6 student and team spokesperson, Mia, possibly best summarised participation in the netball carnival by saying “Awesome team, supportive coach, fantastic parents, great players and our unbelievable friendships”.
