Each year Santa’s Classy helpers spend 11 months collecting toys, food and special items for local families who are doing it tough, but this year the charity needs a helping hand.
All items collected throughout the year are then set-up at The J like a big supermarket where families under the care of local organisations such as The Salvation Army can come and shop for items to help make their Christmas a little brighter.
Santa’s Classy Helpers founder Lorraine Kenway said the service expects to help at least 285 families this year, which will be more than 800 children, and with the special shopping day almost here there is a way to go to ensure there is plenty on offer for local families.
“We need new toys for newborns to teenagers and presents for mums and dads.
“There are a lot of single dads looking after the kids and they seem to be forgotten when it comes to presents,” she said.
“We need a lot more items for our special shopping day. We need everything from food to toys. Many of these people live with second-hand things so we ask all donations to be brand new.”
Strong men and women are also needed on the day to help carry heavy bags and boxes out to cars. Anyone who would like to volunteer can phone Lorraine on 5449 7599.
Anyone who would like to donate long-life food items, personal hygiene items, new toys, linen, bath towels and other items can drop into one of the two Classy Lady boutiques at Gympie Terrace or Gibson Road, Noosaville.
