A BOAT capsized on the Noosa River last night with five people on board, but no serious injuries were reported.
About 5pm, the tri-hull catamaran flipped over just across from Thomas Street, Noosaville, leaving the five people to escape to shore.
Noosa Coastguard said the four females and one male on the boat made it to shore by themselves with one of the females being trapped under the hull for a period of time before she could escape.
It is reported that an ambulance took at least one of them to hospital, but nobody was seriously injured.
An observer reported that a handbag belonging to one of the females was retrieved from the river this morning, along with many other belongings and that at least two of them were Danish backpackers.
Noosa Coastguard said the boat might have turned too sharply, or ‘turned turtle’ as they say.
The boat has just been pulled back into shore on the Noosa River after a several hour retrieval operation by Noosa Coastguard.
Investigations are underway to what caused the catamaran to capsize.
