MARIE Vat was a long-time local of Cooroy and one of her favourite events was the lighting of the Ri-con Cooroy Christmas tree.
Marie passed away early this year just nine short weeks after being diagnosed with cancer on the same day that Cooroy lit up the tree last year.
“Mum loved the event so much that she still attended the tree lighting ceremony even though she’d received such devastating news that very day,” daughter Anthea Wood said.
Marie was a vibrant, bright person with flaming red hair who loved to wear bright colours, particularly orange. She passed away at 66 years young and is very much missed by her family.
Marie and her husband Tony moved to Cooroy in the early 1980s and they have been very much active at the Cooroy RSL as Tony is an ex-serviceman and was on the board many years ago.
Tony and Marie had two daughters, Anthea Wood and Trudie Waite, and Marie was a very dedicated family person who brightened up the lives of her loved ones.
The family have sponsored a star for Marie as she shone so bright in her life that it is only fitting that she will shine for all of Cooroy on the Christmas tree she loved so much.
