NOOSA Council discovered a number of common recycling misconceptions at the recycling workshops it held during National Recycling Week.
Noosa Councillor Joe Jurisevic said more than 420 residents attended workshops and information sessions held throughout Noosa during Recycling Week.
“It was encouraging to see so many people keen to learn more about recycling,” he said.
“The workshops highlighted how many people are unaware of the number of everyday items that can be recycled in their yellow-lidded recycle bin. As recycling techniques change, things that once weren’t recyclable, can now be recycled.”
Cr Jurisevic urged residents to download a copy of Council’s A-Z Guide to Recycling to keep up-to-date on what can and can’t be recycled.
Council’s Waste Education officer Emma Menzies said that aerosol cans topped the list of items people did not know could be recycled.
“Many attendees were also not aware that pizza boxes, plastic take-away containers and tetra packs could be recycled,” she said.
“They were also surprised that aluminium foil could be recycled. Ideally it should be clean and scrunched into a ball prior to disposing.”
