Fire closes motorway at Coolum

A large grassfire in Coolum has caused the closure of the Sunshine Motorway. Residents are urged to close their doors and windows and keep medication close by if they suffer from a respiratory condition.

Noosa and Sunshine Coast residents planning to travel on the Sunshine Motorway are advised to find an alternative route with a massive grass fire causing the closure of the road.
Currently, 16 Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews and crews from Queensland Parks and Wildlife are on scene at a vegetation fire burning near the Sunshine Motorway, in the vicinity of Corbould Road, Banksia Avenue, Cinnamon Avenue and Research Street, Coolum Beach.
The fire broke out about 1.45pm and is posing no threat to property at this time.
Firefighters are working to control the blaze and are undertaking operations to protect structures in the area.
The QFES is warning that the fire is generating large amounts of smoke and residents may be affected throughout the afternoon.
Residents should close windows and doors and keep medications close by if suffering from a respiratory condition.
Traffic closures are in place on the Sunshine Motorway.
Smoke can affect visibility, so motorists should drive with caution and take the conditions into account.
Residents who are concerned that their property may be under threat are advised to call triple zero immediately.
