They did it for ‘Straya!

The sun shone as hundreds of residents flocked to Pirate Park on Thursday to celebrate Australia Day with friends and family.
The Australia Day Festival featured a whole-day program of live music, food demonstrations, magic shows, great food and plenty of sunshine and water fun in the river.
Last year’s festival was rained out, but event organisers this year installed a giant marquee to provide shade and shelter for event-goers.
But the party didn’t stop at Pirate Park – families and groups of friends lined the banks of Noosa River to make the most of the glorious weather and to celebrate all that is great about Australia.
Noosa also welcomed 41 new citizens from 11 different countries at the Citizenship Ceremony held at The J on the same day.
Residents from countries such as the USSR, India, Philippines, France and Thailand all became Australian citizens at a ceremony hosted by Mayor Tony Wellington.
