World’s largest sporting events on the way

By Tourism Noosa Ceo Damien Massingham

This weekend Noosa plays host to the world’s biggest surfing event, the Noosa Festival of Surfing which will see competitors from across the board visit Noosa for this great festival.
In addition to the perfect, peeling waves off First Point, the festival offers a unique entertainment “village” right on the sand in front of the break, with licensed bar and food, live music and movies nightly and some great lifestyle events throughout the day.
This marks the 26th anniversary of the festival and the second event on the Noosa calendar already for 2017 following on from the Noosa Summer Swim which took place in February.
Noosa’s calendar of events continues to evolve with a diverse range of established and emerging events including the Noosa Rainbow River Festival also taking place in March.
The Australian Body Art Festival moves to Cooroy in April and May features three great weekends of events with the expanded Noosa Food and Wine Festival, Ultraman Australia and the Noosa Ultimate Sports Festival.
In the second half of the year, events include the Noosa Long Weekend Festival, the Pomona King of the Mountain, both in July, Noosa Strade Bianche and Noosa Open Studios in August and the Noosa Jazz Party in September.
October will be a busy month of events including the Noosa Surf Film Festival, the Wild Women Adventure Race and the Noosa International Film Festival.
December includes the Sunshine Coast Masters and this year, the world’s largest triathlon, the Noosa Triathlon Multi Sports Festival, will be celebrating its 35th anniversary.
Events such as these are supported by Tourism Noosa via the event sponsorship strategy as events provide great reasons for visitors to visit Noosa outside of the traditional school and peak holiday times and provide strong economic benefits across the region.
