Politicians, councillors, community members and even scuba divers all turned out for the Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 5 March.
The weekend of cleaning started with a beach clean on Noosa Main Beach ahead of the launch of the Noosa Festival of Surfing on Friday 3 March.
The clean-up was sponsored by Unitywater.
Unitywater community relations specialist Kate Cash said the clean-up was a huge success and it was great to see the community involvement from so many groups and individuals.
“Their passion for protecting our waterways and beaches from waste is inspiring,” she said.
“This event was a timely reminder to avoid single-use plastic water bottles and get back to tap!”
The beach clean-up was the first in a series of monthly Noosa Beach clean- ups that will report data to the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) to create Source Reduction Plans to address the major causes of Noosa beach pollution.
The official statistics from the Clean Up Australia Day are due to be collated and released next week.
