Performance charts a new course

For two shows only (8-9 December) 17 talented artists will appear at The J Theatre, Noosa, in a cutting edge contemporary performance directed by Zen Zen Zo’s co-founder and artistic director Simon Woods.
Simon explains: “The course has been rigorous, very practical and industry focused which means the group is now eager for a professional theatre making experience and a public performance. The production will not be a conventional staging of a known play. Instead we will be devising a new
work based on personal memories and local stories, so there’s both a writing and directing challenge for the artists involved. The theme is change and transformation, one of the great truths of our lives. Nothing stays the same and ultimately life keeps moving. How we deal with change is one of the most important aspects of living a fulfilling life.
“This will be a highly visual and dynamic production employing the range of physical theatre skills that the students have developed throughout the year. Featuring the ensemble from the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Master of Professional Practice (Performing Arts), led by physical theatre innovator and front runner, Dr Lynne Bradley, Dusk ’til Dawn is a visually arresting, highly physical performance demonstrating the advanced training undertaken throughout the year and drawing on the personal transformation stories of the artists in their quest to attain mastery.”
XS Entertainment’s Xanthe Coward, a member of the ensemble, said: “For local artists to have the opportunity to work with a director of Simon’s calibre is a coup, and bodes well for the continuing development of the performing arts industry on the Sunshine Coast”.
Production manager and member of the ensemble, Nicole Reilly, observed: “We all came with unique skills and artistry, shedding blood, sweat and tears this year to go the edge and push beyond the limits of what we believed was possible as professional performing artists”.
Dusk ’til Dawn can be seen for two nights only at The J, Noosa, on Friday 8 December and Saturday 9 December.
Price is $22 for adults and $17 concession. Book at www.thej.com.au or call 5329 6560.
